Mentor Advice ForumCategory: QuestionsWhich degree is the best for me?

I am currently enrolled to start my MSDH program this fall and my program will have a course load heavy in public health. I have been told that an MSDH degree can be a limiting degree for careers in public health. I would like opinions of fellow public health dental hygienists – which degree is the best for me?

I have had my MPH for 37 years now – there were very few dental hygienists seeking that degree then. I’ve found it to be a wonderful path to many different careers in dental public health on national, state and local levels. I am not familiar with the MSDH, although you describe quite a lot of curricula in public health. I believe there are many more opportunities in dental public health than when I first sought my MPH. I do not believe you will be limited in a career. Your degree is not the only item that defines you. The coursework, experience, interning, etc. will also have an impact. Best of luck to you!
