Mentor Advice ForumI don't want to be just a good dental hygiene researcher- I want to be a great one!

It took me a while to figure out what I wanted to do for my bachelor’s (both education and public health interested me) but I have finally settled on dental hygiene research. I was told that there are different paths within it, such as lab work and academia. I feel that there is not enough information on what those entail and what I need to know in order to be great at it. All I am certain of is that I want to create change with advancements in the way we do things and the knowledge we currently have.
A lot of articles online mention that people moved into dental hygiene research after going through their masters or by pursuing education and public health. It makes me think that going straight into research is not a good idea, that I need a stronger foundation to build off of, in order to be successful. It also sounds like a bachelor may not be enough for this, that making any progress in research will require a much longer path ahead. I would appreciate any advice or information that can help with navigating the path of research successfully, thank you!
