Mentor Advice ForumFurthering my career in dental hygiene
AvatarVictoria asked 3 months ago

Hello, my name is Victoria and I am currently in the Bachelor completion program at Farmingdale State College. I am interested in pursuing my dental hygiene career in education, as a clinical instructor. I would like to know if you have any tips or any recommendations as I go down this path? Was it difficult to find a job? How is the interviewing process and what are important factors to consider when applying for jobs in the future?

Faculty must have one degree higher than the students they are teaching. With over 360 dental hygiene programs (at least last I knew….) I don’t see it being to difficult to get a position as a clinical instructor. I know we are ALWAYS looking for faculty at our institution.

A career in education is very rewarding. One of the keys to my success in the field of education is to be a lifelong learner myself. I have to be open to learning about the latest in instrumentation, technology and teaching strategies. When looking to break into the field of education, you need to be flexible as far as schedule and salary.
