Mentor Advice ForumAdvancing my career in dental hygiene
AvatarKisha Ford asked 1 year ago

Hi, my name is Kisha Ford and I wanted to ask some questions about furthering my career in dental hygiene. I have been a dental hygienist for 20 years. I am currently enrolled in a bachelor’s program at Farmingdale State College. My interest is in education or public health. As I am reaching the end of the bachelor’s program, I am realizing that a Master’s degree may be my next step. My questions are, should I plan on getting my Master’s degree in order to work as an educator or in public health to cover all basis. I am torn because I love clinical work but I do not know how long my body will handle it. I would appreciate if someone could stir me in the right direction, maybe there is something I am overlooking. Thank you in advanceĀ

I have also focused on public health and am definitely happy that I went through a Master of Science in Dental Hygiene (MSDH) program. I feel that it was more focused on dental hygiene and, as I focused my projects on dental public health, I got theĀ  best of both worlds. Dental hygiene is really inherent in dental public health, so I think if you still want to stay in dental public health I would recommend a MSDH program
