I am going to go back to school to become a dental hygienist, but I’m not sure about whether I should apply to a 4-year or 2-year program. What is your advice?

I ALWAYS tell students that advanced degrees open more doors of opportunity. Plus, there is no such thing as a 2-year program because all dental hygiene programs require a year of prerequisites—all the more reason to go for the bachelor’s degree.

I would recommend obtaining a baccalaureate degree. This degree provides more career options and contributes to an individual’s self esteem. As health care becomes more complex and the role of the dental hygienist grows, the higher the degree the better.
